Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) Concerning Breast Augmentation
Does Board Certification Assure I'm Getting The Best Surgeon?
Q: If I find a surgeon that is Board Certified, am I sure I'm getting the best surgeon?
A: Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is a very good objective criteria that tells you: Did a surgeon complete an approved residency program and pass rigorous oral and written exams? What boards DON'T tell you is everything you need to know about the PERSON that is the SURGEON.
Surgeons are like every other profession. Some are better than others, whether they are board certified or not board certified. Does board certified really mean that you are getting the best surgeon? Not necessarily. Even if they are board certified, how much experience do they have with a certain procedure? It's your job to find out. But most importantly, pay close attention to the person. How thorough are the surgeon's informational materials? How well organized is the office? How knowledgeable are they? How much information do they give you? How thorough are they when they examine you? Do they emphasize the negatives of any option (they all have them) as much as the positives? How are you treated by the surgeon's personnel (they are a reflection of the surgeon-the more they know, the more the surgeon usually knows, because guess who taught them!) If you compare surgeons on these criteria, using common sense in addition to credentials, you'll probably make a better choice.
