Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) Concerning Breast Augmentation

What Happens If I Get Pregnant?

Q: What will happen if I get pregnant after I have an augmentation?

A: When you get pregnant following an augmentation, your breasts will enlarge, just as they would if you had not had augmentation. How your pregnancy will affect your breasts depends on how large your breasts get-and that's not predictable. Most women enlarge about one cup size, and following pregnancy, most augmentation patients' breasts still look excellent. About 10% of women enlarge much more, and if their skin stretches significantly, their current implants may not adequately fill the stretched envelope. The result is that your upper breast would be slightly less full following massive enlargement with pregnancy. But that only happens in 10-15% of patients, and can be improved by placing more fill (a larger implant) in the breast.

By the way, we have hundreds of patients who have nursed after augmentation. Nursing usually cycles the breast up and down more, and depending on how much you enlarge and how long you nurse, the effects of nursing usually cause more stretching of breast skin.

Good luck! With your augmentation and with your pregnancy!
