The Best Breast

I have been looking at my chest since at least the age of 16 and waiting for my breasts to grow. I am now 42 and through the years have tried everything from meditation, herbs, therapy, and magnets to bring the "dog ear flaps" to full perky breasts. When I decided to get implants, it was because while I see myself as pretty, when I take my clothes off, my self esteem goes down. When I had each of my 2 children, part of enjoying nursing them was the way my 2 full breastslooked and felt. Over the last 2 years I had interviewed 5 Doctors from San Antonio and Austin with a range of 8-25 years experience. All 5 told me very much the same information... that I should plan on about 10 days to 2 weeks to be unavailable for work, that I would wear a tight sports bra around my chest, that there would be drain tubes. Each Dr. had me either pick out my favorite looking breast from pictures or to stuff my bra with an implant to get me "sized". I wastold that I would take lots of medication including Percoset for pain, Phenegram for nausia, Soma for relaxation and Keflex an antbiotic with extra costs from $100-$125. I thought they were all so much the same that the deciding factor would be cost ranging from $3300.-$5500. and the Doctor that I would be most compatible with. I went ahead and scheduled and meanwhile discovered Dr. Tebbets book, "The Best Breast". I could not put it down! I could tell this Doctor specialized in the subject of breast augmentation. Yes, he's a plastic surgeon for other surgeries, but his interest and caring were very clear. He developed a breast implant that is shaped like a natural breast. Way more importantly, the way he does surgery gives the patient a much better outlook. For instance the instrument used during surgery makes bleeding virtually non existent after surgery and healing almost painless. No drain tubes or tight sports bra needed. This Doctor measures just how large an implant your body tissue can hold before showing through thin skin. All together Dr. Tebbets perfected this surgery and recovery for our comfort and best look now and for the future. Obviously I decided to go with him, am now 4 months post surgery and couldn't be happier. The day after surgery I was out looking at houses with my mother in law all day. I washed my hair, had my arms up over my head, had no bleeding and no bandages except 2 tiny bandaides over the incision and so little discomfort that I used the prescribed Ibuprofen the next 2 days only because I thought that I should! I was given Dyphenhydramine for nausia but never used it once. The drugs costed $17.00 and they are still sitting in my medicine cabinet. I had taken 2 weeks off of work because I couldn't believe I'de be ready, but it turned out to be a vacation instead of a recovery. I followed Dr. Tebbets book and advice to the letter and had a wonderful experience. His book is highly recommended. See for yourself between your own interviews with other Doctors. For a lifelong decision such as breast implants, get all the information you can and make reading this book part of that research. It was so worth it.
Sincerely, Michele Z.

After two years of research--through books, websites, friends and consultations with doctors--I was so relieved to find this excellent resource. Finally, someone was talking to me with respect for my intelligence and with concern about my well-being. The Tebbetts have professional credibility and expertise, but beyond that, this is a doctor and medical-educator team who have respect for women. In the medical world, I find this to be unusual and it was a relief to be talked "with", rather than "down to" in this book. I have wanted this surgery for years, but just couldn't imagine I'd ever have enough information (or trust a surgeon enough) to actually do it. The Tebbetts do an excellent job of walking the reader through the realities (rather than myths) of breast augmentation, so that the reader's decision is based on factual information and an integrated understanding of the many factors involved in a safe and successful augmentation. For me, the right choice was to have Dr. Tebbetts himself do my augmentation. Even though I live in New Mexico, the feeling of "rightness" about traveling to Dallas for this surgery far outweighed any inconvenience incurred. It's been a little more than a month since my surgery, and I am delighted with the results. The Tebbetts' book prepared for me this procedure being a "process"--the surgery is, of course, the most critical part of that process, but knowing what to expect over the days, weeks and months following the surgery is extremely important. This book remains on my bedside table as a constant companion to which I can refer when I have questions. Read this book. Being informed is your most important ally in your decision whether or not to have breast augmentation surgery.

I bought and read this book cover to cover, prior to having my Breast Augmentation (completed 1/19/00). It is the best source of information from pre-op questions to locate the best doctor to post-op recovery techniques. I am lucky enough to live in Dallas and had my operation completed by Dr. Tebbetts. Both he and his wife,Terrye, co-author of the book, were wonderful in providing all the necessary information I needed to make the most informed decision. I highly recommend this book to every woman who is considering a Breast Augmentation.

Excellent! Direct! Informative! Profound! Truthful! Irritating! And true! No-holes-barred! Achieving supposedly ideal "great-big-beautiful-bouncy-natural-feeling-and- looking breasts" via plastic surgery is a fairy-tale dream that certainly does not come true easily, if ever at all, for most women... I ought to know. Beginning at the adolescent age of 17, over the past 24 years, I've undergone 5 1/2 surgeries, with a 6th surgery on the way, sooner than I think... Truly, great fame, fortune and "star doctors" do not guarantee great breasts, nor a great surgical outcome, or lasting results, ever. After reading this book, now I understand some of the reasons WHY!The why, why, why, WHY ME, is explained, fully and factually. Definitely, I am highly recommending this book to all of my friends, who are considering either new or repeat breast surgeries. Actually, this book should be considered absolute prerequisite "required" reading, among anyone, and basically everyone, even remotely considering the idea of breast implant surgery! Without a doubt! In the end, I have learned the hard way that we are, indeed, unfortunately, all prisoners of our own making, and our own design, and I only wish that this highly informative book had been available to me when I first began my rather impossible "never-ending-great-breast-search-saga", as I am quite sure that, indeed, my tumultuous odyssey, a journey that bears such a troubled legacy of so much hardship, pain, and disappointment, would have, most assuredly, surely, perhaps, had a quite different outcome...in the end...both physically and mentally... Once again, this book should be required reading for all women contemplating any type of breast-implant surgery! DO NOT have any type of breast surgery, with any doctor, anywhere, at all, period, before reading this book first! What you will learn about breast surgery will surprise, shock, and, yes, dishearten and disappoint you, but at least you'll know the odds, and the unvarnished facts, before plunging deep into the forever endless high- or low-road of breast surgery. I believe, the author of this book, obviously, have a profoundly sincere desire to hopefully educate and influence we women who are, and who have been, so very easy misled, misinformed, and brainwashed by the impossible-to-meet-beauty-standards of our rather warped and ridiculous "bigger-is-always-better-breast-conscious" society, and media... True, I thought "I knew it all", for sure, however, this book proved me wrong... Although, I did not like a lot of what the author wrote, and I will probably continue to ignore some of his good advise, thus, paying the heavy price, both in health and in many other ways as well, indeed, however, he was remarkably correct in his dead-on analyses... Run from any surgeon who does not applaud or endorse this outstanding book! As it should be proclaimed th undeniable new bedside "bible" of breast surgery.

The Best Breast is all you need to make an informed decision that will change your body for a lifetime. There is a surprising amount of information that one should consider prior to undergoing breast augmentation. This book presents all of the information that you need in an easy to read format. After interviewing several local surgeons, we talked with Dr. Tebbetts and his staff and found them to be head and shoulders above the rest. As a result, we made the decision to fly to Dallas to have Dr. Tebbetts perform the surgery.
Not only do we recommend this book for every person considering breast augmentation, but feel that every plastic surgeon should read this book as well. This book is fabulous!

I found this book to be one of the best resources for honest and comprehensive information about breast implants. Without any sugar-coating, this book tells women what they really need to know. I have breast implants and think it is extremely important that women know what they are doing when they make a decision to have breast aumentation. An educated patient is the best patient and, for that reason, this book as "required reading." Nicol
